THE SAMSUNG’S UPCOMING GALAXY S7 COULD BE ON SALE IN TWO DIFFERENT SIZES

According to a recent report of The Economic Times of Korea, Samsung is likely to release the Galaxy S7 in both 2 screen sizes: 5.2-inch and 5.5-inch, with the 5.5-inch version containing another repetition of the Edge display. It’s also suggested that the project, named HERO, could be unveiled in February 2016.

Although news around the Web suggests that the Edge model will be in the larger size, it’s still too early to confirm whether both Galaxy S7 sizes will be available as regular or Edge versions. Additionally, the report considers Samsung’s move here a nod to Apple’s success in selling the flagship iPhone in different sizes (4.7-inch and 5.5-inch) for the previous two generations.

According to the report, Samsung is preparing a detailed strategy to approach the premium phone market.

For a long time, Samsung has produced phones in practically every single size and shape, but a two-track strategy for its flagship line would be new. There is some doubt about what Samsung has planned for the Note line, which currently sits at 5.7-inch size and functions as a second and different flagship phone for the company, thanks to its note-taking software as well as built-in stylus.

This is the latest stream of news in the internet surrounding the upcoming Galaxy S7 during this month. Last week, another report revealed that Samsung and Qualcomm may have made a deal to release the next-generation Snapdragon 820 processor in Samsung Galaxy S7, instead of Samsung’s Exynos CPU line. Earlier this month, The Wall Street Journal also reported that Samsung is targeting the Galaxy S7 in March 2016.  According to the article, this model would be similar to Apple’s 3D Touch with a pressure-sensitive display, a high-speed charging port (which the S6 lacks), and possibly a retina scanner.

The Samsung Galaxy S6 and the S6 Edge (or the S6 Edge+) are all favoured phones, due to their fast 14nm-process SoCs. However, the fact that the company eliminates microSD card slots and shift to non-removable batteries may have contributed to a fall in sales revenue from the prior-generation models. It also nixed the waterproofing and has toned down its TouchWiz-related software customizations significantly.

In spite of some controversies out there over Android’s future being in lower-end phones, there’s still a lot of demand for higher-end smartphones like the Galaxy S6 line. Nevertheless, Samsung’s operating profit dropped $306 million in the mobile division in the 3th quarter in 2015.
