CLOUD COMPUTING FOR SMALL BUSINESSES
For a long time, security concern has been considered as a significant
issue what makes small businesses or enterprises away from putting their data in the
cloud. Frankly, over the past years, it has been still scary for organizations
to take the first step into cloud services.
Yet according to Oscar Arean, recently, Oscar Arean, technical
operations manager at Databarracks- a disaster recovery provider has claimed
that as handling security in-house becomes a serious headache,
the number of small to medium firms move towards private cloud services will raise
rapidly.
Particularly, Arean announced that tech world will see an upward
trend the need for small enterprises to move to Office 365 - almost by default - due
to its simplicity. “More businesses, each year, are faced with the problem of
the end of their onsite hardware’s life and the choice of moving to the cloud or on-premise,” explains he. “Office 365 will become the default for most small
enterprises because it’s so simple to use.”
He also emphasizes that for the small business planning to move to the private cloud, setting cloud up
is very simple. There is no need for firms to use particularly advanced IT
skills and in some ways cloud can solve the main problem related to security since Microsoft has a vested interest in shielding
customer’s data. There would be a huge damage to their reputation if they were
to suffer a breach.”
A survey conducted by Clutch has revealed finding that
approximately half of small enterprises in America do not use private cloud storage. According to the
analyst Sarah Patrick, while small businesses often consider accomplishing the
business goal the first priority rather than protecting their data, cloud storage services supply
a high-leveled security. She also noted that keeping data secure is what a cloud storage provider
needs to do.
“Adoption is crucial to security,” said Mark van der Linden,
Dropbox manager in the UK. He explained that the real threat to security for businesses is not the cloud itself, but shadow
IT. From his point of view, it’s time for CIOs to place adoption at the
heart of their IT plans. There will be a higher level of adoption rates and a lower risk of data being held
outside official platforms by employing solutions friendly to users.
“Simultaneously, IT departments will put themselves back in control“,
Linden added.
In fact, it’s undeniable that cloud services such as Office 365 can never be 100% secure, but
fortunately , we don’t need to worry, they will have a skilled team of security specialists who work to eliminate threats,” argues Arean. Although he
doesn’t deny that it is still “scary” for small enterprises and businesses to move in the cloud
because even with public cloud platforms such as Google or Microsoft Azure,
there is still work that needs to be done in order to make cloud services more
accessible and intuitive for first time users.
